vCD Storage area guidelines

Hi

We are tearing our hair out, trying to decide how to carve up the mix to carve our two classes of disks into.

We have 4.5T Bytes of 15k fast high IOPs disks, and 10T Bytes of slower 7200RPM disks.

Under Lab Manager, we maxed out the IOPs on the 7200 disks (had no 15k drives, new purchase)

The problem we have is not having a quantitative feel for the performance difference between :

1. Full clone, thick disks

2. Full clone, thin disks  - save on disk space

3. Linked cloned thick disks

4. Linked cloned thin disks - save of disk space

vmware does not provide guidance here in the sense of some typical machines and some benchmark tests under the 4 scenarious.

Then with the two disk types, on paper we could have 8 areas !!

Our use varies between heavy loaqd for build machines, and for unit tests, to low load for interactive testing.

Our use is in a dev / test environment.

>> Does someone have an option of what they will do ?

I am leaning to 2. & 4. in both disk types, i.e. 4 areas ?

Thanks
