If you created a Provider vDC ... did it create the matching resource pool in vCenter? If not, then you cannot deploy anything (Edge Gateway or whatever).
If it did create a resource pool (As DRS is required), did you prepare each ESX host to have the vCloud Director agent installed?
It sounds like there are many issues going on right now, and some are more important than others.
The most primary step is to ensure that the Provider created correctly, that you have hosts prepared, the hosts are members of the required resources (Distributed Switches, external network port groups, all datastores are presented).
