You don't need to use those cmdlets anymore. They were created before you were able to user New-CIVApp to deploy from a vApp Template.
I'm a little confused as to your goal. If you have a vApp Template and just want to deploy 50 copies of it the script above will work. If you have a vSphere VM, want to import it, and then deploy from it then you'll need an entirely different script.
