there isn't a vmware-imc in /var/log, but I must add that I am not getting any errors when attempting to guest customize (in vCenter). I have heard from others that this might be a Ubuntu known bug, but I do not have confirmation of this. The local admin password works even after vCD supplies the auto-generate password in properties.
