Re: Provider vDC / Cluster Resources

  • If enough capacity exists, map the root resource pool of the cluster to provider virtual data centers. This simplifies resource management.

it absolutely does.  vCloud Director creates resource pools whenever you create an Org vDC.  Why complicate matters when there will be resource pools a plenty.

  • Create multiple provider virtual data centers to differentiate computing levels or performance characteristics of a service offering.

This becomes more critical in mixing CPU performance levels (faster clock speeds) inside a single cluster.

If you want storage to be your determining factor in performance, you should be able to do that with a single provider.

Do you even have a second cluster with DRS turned on to be able to create Provider vDC #2?

I've also read elsewhere that it's recommended to point a PvDC to the cluster resources, instead of creating child resource pools.

again, I agree with this statement (Same as mentioned above).

I can create the first PvDC no problem, but when I go to create the second PvDC, I get the error where there are no resource pools available.  This is likely because I used the cluster resource for my first PvDC, but how do I create a second PvDC for my 2nd Tier of storage?

yes, you cannot create Two different providers against the same cluster.  we can't use the same object twice.

Here is a comparison using one provider.

Faster Org vDC (Allocation Pool) = 40% CPU and Memory Guarantee + Faster Storage Profile/Policy assigned.

Slower Org vDC (Allocation Pool) = 20% CPU and Memory Guarantee + Slower Storage Profile/Policy assigned.
