I'm looking to possibly turn on VXLANs on my PVDC since upgrading from 1.5 to 5.1.1. A few questions I have regarding them is lingering in my head at the moment. I will explain the best I can in detail below.
I know that VXLANs use distributed switches, I already have a vCDNI Pool on the dvSwitch which is on VLAN 0 or "untagged" a couple things I'm concerned with / have questions on is the following
1) if I create a VXLAN and use the dvSwitch that my vCDNI Pool is on, I'd have to tag it with a VLAN, correct?
- Also if I have to tag it, do I have to create a port group and then create and tag the VLAN on my physical switch? I would assume so
2) multiple PVDC's with same dvSwitch and VXLANs? How does that work, similar to vCDNI Pools, where I have the PVDC attach to that pool. I ask because if I have to use multiple dvSwitches for each cluster, it begs the question, how do I use my port groups that are assigned with VLAN tags for my edge gateways to get out to the internet going to work on dvSwitch B if the port groups are only on switch A. do I have to sacrifice redundancy and attach the hosts to their respective cluster dvSwitch AND the "internet" dvSwitch? Hopefully that is worded well enough for someone to shed some light on it.
3) and finally, I believe VMware is working on a way to "hot cut" people from vCDNI Pools to VXLAN, but in the mean time, is there an easy way, or even A way to do it? I'd like to get rid of my vCDNI pools in the future.
