I think processes run in series per each Object in question. e.g. one thread per vApp. You can suspend multiple vApps, and each vapp will run as a separate thread. I don't know of a way around this.

You understand correctly. vCloud does not support single VMDK disk on multiple machines, you have to work outside of vCloud to make it work.
