Re: Resize VM disk and hot add disk in vCloud director?

I think this a great Idea!!!

It should be the road map for a future version of vCloud Director.

You have to configure static NAT to translate private to public network.

Access will be depend on your service which you are using.

Re: Lease Expiration Notification Emails without Link

Messages do not include link, I am not sure why - but from what I can tell this is just how vCloud does it.

If you need to send a better message to users you might want to look at doing something with the API (either direct, VCO, powercli) and checking what will expire and send you own custom messages out.

Have you tried different browsers? I feel its a browser issue. Can you login into it through vcenter?

Change vCloud Director Cell Hostname

I've deployed the vCloud Director 5.5 appliance and the hostname defaults to localhost.localdom. I've tried changing this at the console (Option 3) and also at the webpage (https://hostname:5480). Each time after I reboot, it reverts to localhost.localdom.

Any idea how I can keep this permanent?

Thanks,

Scott

Go to /opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_set_hostname in vCD cell

And edit the line that says

HOSTNAME="localhost.localdom" to your desired hostname. Save it and exit.

Reboot the appliance once.

Still haven't had a chance to uninstall vCloud agent.

But...

This just happened while trying to deploy an older catalog entry that worked fine in vCloud 1.5.

Regarding Solaris Cluster support on VMware based Cloud

Re: Regarding Solaris Cluster support on VMware based Cloud

Sort of...

If you want to have the cluster point to the same master disk (vmdk) then no, you can't do that in a supported fashion.

However - if what you are doing is more for test/dev and you can have the clusters shared disk be iSCSI or NFS, then you could do something.

Add to your vApp a filer, that can present the iSCSI or NFS disk, and use that for the shared Solaris cluster disks.

I know this is not the most common way of setting this up, but we have used it for doing some test and lab/dev workloads.

copy-UUID

I have started to notice in vCenter, a few "VMname-copy-UUID" folders that have been created by vCloud 5.5.  Has anyone else noticed this and knows the exact operation that might cause this behavior?  Thanks!

I was playing with this as I did not see these in our system, so I assumed it had to be something different than our normal work flow - but I was only able to create these in one manor (not sure it is the only way, just all I came up with in my testing)

Right Click on vApp

Select "Copy To"

The name field is empty - put in the name "VM Copy"

When the create is done a folder will exist with the format you are seeing.

Okay, so during guest customization in vCloud director, the customization package is transferred directly from the vCloud Director instance to the vSphere host.  Correct?

So this NFC error means that NFC is not working between vCloud and the host.

When trying to upload Media files I get a similar error between vCenter and the host.

So is the host the problem?

What would keep NFC from working?

The vCenter log had something about "url host not found by IP".

vMotion works.  Deploying new VMs from the catalog in vCloud works.  All of my VMs work.

By what mechanism does vCloud and vCenter resolve the connection information to transfer files to hosts using NFC?

WebInspect vCD

It has been proposed that we subject our vCD environment to vulnerability scanning with WebInspect. This sounds like a very bad idea to me. Has anyone had any experience along these lines? I'm particularly interested in learning about the risks and how to avoid or mitigate them.

Thanks!

I tested out the same thing but when I look in vCenter to reference the VM that was copied, the folder is just named with the vApp name as typically expected.  I haven't seen the Name-Copy-UUID thing this time.  I am wondering if the only time where this is the result is a failed copy or something to that extent?
