How do I export vCD local user accounts from one vCD 9.0 cell and import them into another vCD 9.0 cell?

Hi,

I want to export a list of 100 local vCD users from one vCD 9.0 cell and import them into a new vCD 9.0 cell (so I don't have to manually create the local accounts one by one and I am not using LDAP since this is a lab environment).

I assume I have to use this command as detailed in the link below:

./cell-management-tool dbextract

VMware vCloud Director Documentation Center

But I don't see specific line on what to do just for users instead of the entire database.

Is there a quick way to get this done?

Thanks.

This can be due to multiple reasons, such as: If you are using proxy server to do that it might fails. See reference KB articles: KB 2091030 & KB 2135484.

Thanks for the feedback however I am refering to the vCloud Director Tenant HTML5 portal.   There is currently no option to open a VM console which mean you have to flip back to the flash based portal.

Has anyone seen a road map that includes this in up and coming vCloud Director releases?

Rename Datastore in vCloud director

Hi All,

Is rename Datastore supported in vCloud Director 5.5.2?

We've to rename couple of datastores which have running VMs. There is no change in storage policy names, it will be same, only datastore names changes.

As per KB ( VMware Knowledge Base ) its not a problem in vcenter, but couldnt find a wiki/article on how to change datastore name in vCD environment.

It would be great if you can provide wiki with the details on it.

This looks like a network related problem. Is there a firewall between the system running PowerCLI and the vCloud Director server that blocks the traffic? Can you open the vCloud Director console in a browser from the same system?

I have turned off the firewall but it is still same. Yes, I am able to browse the vCD console from my browser.

Usually there is no explicit change that is needed in VCD layer for this ask. Simple name change in VC data-store followed by VC refresh in VCD will show you the updated name. I have tested this in VCD 9.0 . To be in safer side you can take a VC and VCD snapshot and DB backup and do the change,it should work flawlessly.

Hi,

We made the migration from MSSQL to PostgreSQL, there are built in migration tools and plenty of guides to follow.

Migrate to a PostgreSQL Database

Keep in mind to run the correct PostgreSQL version, I think it's 9.5. Our migration went fint.

It's not very well indicated, but power on the VM and click on the icon indicated by the arrow, and it will open the console.

vCloud Director 8.20 Cassandra issue

Hi,

I want to retrieve historic virtual machine performance metrics via Cloud Director REST API.

Hence,I installed single node cassandra server with kairos db on Ubuntu according to https://anthonyspiteri.net/installing-and-configuring-cassandra-and-kairosdb-on-ubuntu-14-04-lts/ article. I completed all configuration of cassandra and vCloud Director.

Cassandra services are running successfully..I can see metrics of vcloud director metrics on kairos DB.

But, when i try to get historic data using REST API, i can't see any historic data What is wrong ?

VM Network adapter disconnected during a vCloud Availability Test Recovery

$

Hi everybody,

We have a fresh new vCloud infrastructure with vCloud Availability suite.

We are doing to migrate our first client on our vCloud but i encounter an issue during the recovery tests.

Our client has multiple standard switch network at the on premise, during the configuration of the replication the network pairing was does and normaly all is ok at this step.

But when i launch a test recovery of one or multiple VM, the VM mount and start but :

- No network adapter(s) was linked

- Network adapter(s) is not connected (checkbox empty)

I've already try to fix this settings manually on the cloud site without success.

On the vCloud side, the network was presented on the organisation VDC network and if i display the dedicated network on the vCenter vCloud side i can see the replicated machines. (for example : VM1 with network1 on premise > VM1_i (replication id) with the right network adapter and the checkbox not empty)

Honestly i don't understand where's the problem and why the network adapter was not linked.

I hope that my problem is not one and i also hope that i'm clear on my explaination.

Sorry for my bad english and thank you for your time.

Regards

VM Discovered on vCenter

Hi,

I've another quick issue or mistake on our vCloud suite infrastructure.

For a customer we have a vCAV side with the replicated VM and also one VM domain controller continiously up on the vCloud Organisation of this client.

From i've inventoried this VM on the Organisation, the vCenter add a new empty repository each hour (i think) under the organisation, example of the vCenter navigator view :

- vcenter server

     - Cluster

          - Provider VDC

               - Organisation VDC

                    - VM1 directory

                    - VM2 directory

                    - ... directory

                    - DC added manualy directory (id)

                    - DC added manualy directory (id)

                    - DC added manualy directory (id)

                    - DC added manualy directory (id)

                    - DC added manualy directory (id)

                    - DC....

My first reflex was to move this VM to another directory out of the organization and remove the empty directories but there's no effect.

The directories continue to be created periodicaly.

An idea ?

How to connect to VM Console with vCloud Director REST API ?

Hi all,

I have vCloud Director 8.20.0 and i have many vApp VM on some organizations. I am developing custom portal for VCD and  I want to connect to VM console using REST api. But, i could not be success...

What i did ??

First of all, I read example about that on "vCloud API Programming Guide for Service Providers guide VCD 8.20.0" guide as you can see the at following link.

https://pubs.vmware.com/vcd-820/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vcloud_sp_api_guide_27_0.pdf

I downloaded VMware HTML Console SDK 2.1 and extracted zip file to folder.

Than, I created a new html file named console.html which has related html codes as you can see at below. ( I found html codes at the following link ;Release Notes )

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC"-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /><title>Console</title> </head> <body><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/wmks-all.css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.3.min.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.8.16/jquery-ui.min.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="wmks.min.js"></script> <div id="wmksContainer" style="position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%"></div><script>
var wmks = WMKS.createWMKS("wmksContainer",{VCDProxyHandshakeVmxPath:"vmfs/volumes/5853a4db-421ca071-9edf-b05adabcdba8/VAPP01 (f3814898-b239-4ac0-9d90-2411379f23b5)/VAPP01 (f3814898-b239-4ac0-9d90-2411379f23b5).vmx", enableUint8Utf8:true}).register(WMKS.CONST.Events.CONNECTION_STATE_CHANGE, function(event,data){

if(data.state == WMKS.CONST.ConnectionState.CONNECTED){

console.log("connection state change : connected");

}

 });

wmks.connect("wss://VCD-IP:443/902;cst-cWXrQtbJk0eKf+w2f33/4JKQNAUgcWvz4RdzMVOqPWeVLwxM7NnjewHr69x3uWi6R0TOIMyZWBbRVG2tEoW9iFfa+QTxEt1yYZ0ks2rFgsPXa7FadR82pkzQzrXUfyxnrBCdrrqsBg7eDQfgxueoj3yNiz7pnRjZRglY1j3EJrWPcVm9dql+mkXsK51CDbU42ORRHUaaOgLsFgU1ndndbHNQ4T4i0LOfb9ppSvehAnY=-G85/fcnZXX/fLCkCwZNxwr6B0RrYgjslexp33A==--tp-60:39:C9:C2:E1:27:BF:1D:3A:CD:B9:82:AB:8B:C5:F5:7C:95:ED:B6--");
</script></body></html>

I wrote related parameters ( Ticket, Host etc... ) to console.html according to VM Post Parameters ;

Finally, I am opening console.html file and i just see white page ! There is no console, no error or anything else.

I don't understant what is wrong.

Migrations between vCloud Director Environments

$

I am after some guidance on migrating configuration details from one vCloud Director to another. I am about to install new hardware with vCenter 6.5 and vCloud Director 9. The existing hardware is on vCenter 5.5 and vCloud Director 8.0. Are there any scripts or utilities available to migrate everything from existing to new hardware? I am planning to migrate individual tenants at a time. The VMs will keep the same IP address.
